Frequently Asked Questions...
When is the next tournament?
The next tournament is Saturday November 23, 2pm to 4pm at Church of the Apostles, Guelph (corner of Paisley and Glasgow).
For these tournaments, do I have to register ahead of time?
No. Just show up at the event and we'll get you registered then.
Is there a cost?
Upon registering, you'll be invited to make a pay-what-you-can donation to support campus ministry. Suggested donation per player is $25. Everything raised at these tournaments supports the work of ECM at the University of Guelph. Donations over the suggested amount are eligible for a tax receipt.
Is this competitive?
All in good fun. If you are from a church, we'll invite you to name your church at registration, so we can give one of our supporting churches some bragging rights (and the Crokinole Cup).
What if I'm not from a church?
Still come. You can either pick a team to join up with, or make a new team based on your family, workplace, neighbourhood, etc.
How does the tournament work?
Each person gets points for just showing up. You also get 5 points for each match you win. We'll typically have time for 3 or so matches (each being about 20 minutes).
Doubles or singles?
We have lots of tables, so you can either play a singles match (1 vs. 1), or a doubles match (2 vs. 2). We also give each table latitude to interpret the rules of crokinole their own way, since there seems to be different versions floating around.
Can I donate something to the Silent Auction?
Sometimes we have a Silent Auction at these tournaments, but this time we're doing something different. So hold onto your Silent Auction items for now.
